PaintCare (Stand: SL8074)
Nearly everyone ends up with leftover housepaint at some point, but most people don’t know how to dispose of it properly. To address this, paint manufacturers and the American Coatings Association created PaintCare.
PaintCare is the nonprofit organization created by the paint industry to manage end of life of paint products. PaintCare makes it easy to responsibly dispose of leftover paint by planning and operating recycling programs in states across the US that have passed paint stewardship laws. Through a network of over 2,300 drop-off sites (which are mostly paint retailers) PaintCare makes it more convenient to recycle unwanted paints, stains, varnish, and other paint products accepted within the program.
What has been the impact of the PaintCare program?
To date, PaintCare has collected more than 60 million gallons of paint across 11 programs since the first program launched in Oregon in 2010. Over 70% of all latex paint collected within the program is recycled into new content paint. PaintCare has also coordinated more than 6,000 large volume pickups for those with 100 gallons of paint or more to get rid of, and offers a network of over 2,000 drop-off sites to make paint recycling more convenient for households and businesses.

How can retailers become a PaintCare drop-off site?
Retailers are encouraged to become a voluntary drop-off site with PaintCare by contacting the local PaintCare coordinator in their state. PaintCare helps stores every step of the way to ensure they have bins to store the paint and understand how to contact the local hauler to pick up the paint when bins are full. There is no cost to the retailer to become a drop-off site with PaintCare. Participation as a drop-off site differentiates the retailer and provides a helpful service to the community, while increasing foot traffic in the store.
