Thirty-three Products Singled Out for Hardware Retailing - Retailers' Choice Awards

LAS VEGAS -- Hardware Retailing magazine, published by the North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA,) held its annual Retailers’ Choice Awards Wednesday evening at the National Hardware Show® where more than 30 manufacturers exhibiting at the show were singled out for their development of innovative products.

The Retailers’ Choice Awards, held on the main stage at the NRHA Village, are always a highlight of the show, and Hardware Retailing magazine has been sponsoring the event for more than 30 years in conjunction with the National Hardware Show.

Unlike other awards, the products honored at the Retailers’ Choice ceremony are not selected by editors. Instead, these products are chosen from the thousands of items on the showfloor by a panel of home improvement retailers who volunteer their time to serve as judges.

This year’s panel included: Will Barnhart, Wilco stores, Mt. Angel, Ore.; Gary Copeland, Rising Sun Hardware, Rising Sun, Ind.; Tom Lamkin, Marvin’s Home Centers, Leeds, Ala.; Kristine Landry, Kief Hardware, Cutoff, La.; Linda Johnson, Village True Value Hardware, Western Springs, Ill.; and Dick Thomes, Thomes Bros. Hardware, Arlington, Minn.

The judges selected the products while shopping the show and met to discuss their nominations during a judges’ luncheon on Wednesday afternoon. Winners were notified and the awards ceremony was held where all the new and innovative items were singled out.

“This is always one of the best moments of the show for us,” says Dan Tratensek, editor of Hardware Retailing magazine and vice president of publishing for the North American Retail Hardware Association. “The entire awards program is a big feel-good event and it also fits directly in with our desire to help connect independent retailers and manufacturers.”

Award winners receive a plaque honoring their selection, logos to use in their advertising and packaging and will have their products featured in a special Retailers’ Choice section in an upcoming issue of Hardware Retailing magazine.
