(NORWALK, Conn. April 20) -There's no better venue than the industry's gathering place to honor individuals who have made an impact on the home improvement landscape. That's why two of the industry's leading organizations will be hosting awards programs to honor the industry's movers and shakers during the National Hardware Show®, which will be held May 1-3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

From the industry's Top Guns and Hall of Famers, to awards that recognize the best of the next generation of home improvement retailing, the spotlight will shine on the home improvement industry's best and brightest during the three day event.

"One of the best aspects of the home improvement industry are the individuals who dedicate their lives to making the channel stronger and it is always inspirational to hear their stories and recognize their efforts," says Sonya Ruff Jarvis, vice president of attendee programs for the National Hardware Show.

Awards programs scheduled to take place at the 2012 National Hardware Show include:

The North American Retail Hardware Association Young Retailer of the Year Awards
6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Las Vegas Convention Center Room N102/103 (By invitation only)

The Young Retailer of the Year program, now in its 16th year, was developed and is coordinated by NRHA. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding performance and encourage talented young people to pursue a career in the retail hardware business. To date, the program has honored more than 100 young retailers. Nominees for the Young Retailer of the Year award must be 35 years of age or younger and are judged for their career advancement, professional accomplishments, goals for the future, education and community involvement.

"This is by far one of the feel-good events of the National Hardware Show," NRHA President and CEO Bill Lee says. "It is always uplifting to hear the stories of these truly innovative young entrepreneurs and inspiring to know that our industry is in good hands well into the next generation."

The Golden Hammer Awards presented by Home Channel News magazine 7:30 am - 9:00 am
Room N111/113

Once again Home Channel News magazine will honor the industry's movers and shakers with its Golden Hammer Awards. This year marks the 28th Golden Hammer Awards celebration. This year's Golden Hammer Home Channel Hall of Fame honoree will be Bob Taylor, Do it Best Corp. CEO.

Taylor will join previous Golden Hammer Hall of Fame honorees Larry Stone of Lowe's Co. (2011); Pat Farrah, one of the co-founders of The Home Depot (2010); and Joe Orgill (2004).

Aubuchon Hardware, a chain of 126-hardware stores throughout the northeastern U.S., will also be on hand to receive recognition as Home Channel News Retailer of the Year.

"Aubuchon is one of the most interesting retailers in all of America," editor of Home Channel News Ken Clark says. "They've maintained their independent roots for more than 100 years while expanding well beyond 100 stores."

Also, McDaniel's Do-it Center, a family owned, single-store operator in Snohomish, Wash., will accept the Tools of the Trade award during the Golden Hammer event. The Tools of the Trade award recognizes "a hardware and home improvement store that champion's innovation and best practices across its operation to generate results and connect with customers."
