Reimagine Retail Winner Announced ®

May 10, 2017

(LAS VEGAS, May 10, 2017) – One lucky independent home improvement retailer received a $100,000 grand prize today at the National Hardware Show®.

Caribou Jack’s Trading Co. in Soda Springs, Idaho, was announced as the winner of the National Hardware Show’s Reimagine Retail program which will give owner Robert Lau and his staff the money to build an in-store café where they can host in-store grilling and cooking events and provide a space for members of the community to use at no charge.

Lau says he’s excited and honored to be awarded the prize money.

“There wasn’t a bad idea in the group of finalists,” he says. “Our next phase is to work with our local health department and then start laying out the kitchen. Then construction starts. We hope to be live by Labor Day.”

He says he’s looking forward to providing the community with another gathering space.

“It’s about accumulating experiences, and a café lends itself to that,” says Lau. “It’s the vibe, the experience. And there isn’t a lot of community space in our town, so this will be a good place for community groups to gather.”

The winner was selected this afternoon during a ceremony on the North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA) Village Stage at the National Hardware Show, which is being held through Thursday, May 11, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Caribou Jack’s was chosen from 10 finalists, who were in attendance at the Show and shared their innovative business ideas with other Show attendees.

Other finalists included:

  • Debbie Supply in East Rochester, New York
  • K Hardware Stores in Idaho Falls, Idaho
  • La Grange Park Ace Hardware in La Grange Park, Illinois
  • Logan Hardware, Washington, D.C.
  • Mark’s Supply, Frackville and Shenandoah, Pennsylvania
  • Parry’s, Hamilton, New York
