Reimagine Retail $100,000 Giveaway—Deadline for Submissions Approaching

Mar 21, 2018

(NORWALK, Connecticut, March 21, 2018)—The National Hardware Show® has a question for independent retailers across the country: If you had $100,000 to spend on improving your retail business’ technology—how would you invest it?

The National Hardware Show is accepting submissions through Sunday, March 25 for its second annual Reimagine Retail program. This innovative event awards one independent home improvement retailer with $100,000 to fund a business improvement project centered on technology to help their business reach new heights.

“We are thrilled to once again present $100,000 to a small business owner through Reimagine Retail. This program provides a powerful opportunity to independent retailers,” says Rich Russo, vice president of the National Hardware Show. “Our goal is to empower retailers to decide the best way forward for their business and to support them every step of the way as they make their retail vision a reality.”

A Focus on Technology

Business owners across the country know technology plays a central role in their companies’ daily operations. That's why the 2018 Reimagine Retail program focuses on how retailers can harness the power of technology to make their businesses more profitable and more efficient. The National Hardware Show wants to know how independent retailers would use the cash prize to improve their operations’ technology in any of the following areas:

  • Inventory management systems
  • Checkout process
  • E-commerce platforms
  • Training software
  • Customer relationship management systems
  • Marketing, advertising and public relations
  • In-store experience

Deadline Approaching

Sunday, March 25 is the submission deadline for independent retailers who would like to be considered for this year’s Reimagine Retail program. Entrants must write a summary of 250 words or less detailing how they’d invest the money in technology to propel their business forward. Submissions may also include photos or videos, but these supplemental materials will not be judged as part of the overall submission.  A panel of industry professionals will review each entry and evaluate their potential. Five finalists will be notified by April 28 and flown to the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas, where the Reimagine Retail winner will be announced on the NRHA Village Stage on Wednesday, May 9.

First Reimagine Retail Winner Says There Are 100,000 Reasons to Apply

Robert Lau, owner of Caribou Jack’s Trading Co. of Soda Springs, Idaho, was the winner of the first Reimagine Retail program last year. He used the $100,000 prize to fund a farm-to-table restaurant at his hardware store, capturing new interest from his community and helping him break new ground as an independent home improvement retailer.

Lau says it was the Reimagine Retail program that made his dream possible. He encourages independent retailers to “think big and go crazy” as they submit their entries this year.

“I don’t know of any other opportunity like Reimagine Retail,” Lau says. “It’s all about what independent retailers need to grow their business in the way they believe is best. I can’t say enough great things about the NHS team and their support and encouragement.”

Lau says independent retailers have nothing to lose and $100,000 to gain by thinking how they can bolster their operations’ technology and excel beyond their imagination by entering this year’s program.
